Auburn Public Library, Auburn Maine, Large Dresser Tray, Made for Ulric Dionne Lewiston Maine, Pre WWI, By Wheelock Importer Vienna Austria

Mr. Dionne contracted with Wheelock to have this porcelain dresser tray made to sell in his store. The last image is an advertisement from the 1905 Scarab College newspaper. The tray is 13.5” long by 8” at the widest point and is muti-lobed and asymmetrical in shape. It is adorned by pink rose transfers and some gold spongework. The central motif is a hand colored tranfer of the Auburn Library in Auburn, the twin city to Lewiston across the Androscoggin River. This is one of the largest pieces of picorial or view china I have ever come across. In very nice condition with only small manufacturing flaws almost not worth noting. I have a blog post about view china on Vintage Unscripted if you want to know more about collecting it. Lucite stand is not included.(#226 AHAV/ E C236 5-8-19)
